AWI in Action
Bulb Planting
On 29th October a few ladies from Ashendon WI braved the cold wind to plant crocus and daffodil bulbs by the village bus shelter.
Some more bulbs were planted outside the church yard adding to the crocuses planted in 2008.
After their hard work they enjoyed coffee and muffins. Thanks Ruth!
We'll have to wait until Spring to see the display.

Bra Bank
GIVE US YOUR SUPPORT! Bring your old bras to our meetings. Ashendon WI members and friends are collecting old bras for recycling. We have filled one black bin liner but we want to collect even more! Bras are costly and difficult to manufacture, this results in a short supply of available affordable bras in developing countries. BCR (www.bcrglobaltextiles.com) is filling this need by collecting and carrying out innovative bra recycling in the UK.
Boxes for Afghanistan
Birthdays are synonymous with presents so at our 70th Birthday meeting on 11th March 2009 members again collected items to fill shoeboxes to send to our troops in Afghanistan. Members filled 19 boxes with soup, sweets, books, toiletries, playing cards, chocolate drinks greetings cards etc. As previously we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our members and friends.
Landscaping to Village Carpark
In 2009 A.W.I. donated £100 towards landscaping to the new village capark. This helped pay some of the cost of the hedge planting to the perimeter of the carpark. The new carpark is a great asset as parking at the village hall is fairly limited.
