AGM 2010 News
At the ASMK AGM on Sunday 26th September 2010, Angus MacKay took over the role of Slope Organiser and I am sure along with Bridget and myself you would like to wish Angus all the best in his new role. We will support Angus over the next couple of months whilst he settles in.
Nobody came forward for the vacant post of Equipment & Safety Officer. Dick Taylor has indicated that he will continue in the role up to and including the November session then he will definitely step down.
If there is anyone out there interested in the role please could you email me or Angus at angus.mackay@hotmail.co.uk
This role is an integral and very important position within ASMK.
If you require any further information regarding this correspondence, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Bob

So how about joining the adult group at PSV in 2011?
The price this year will probably be £870 including flights, 9 days Full Board, 8 full days skiing and lift pass. (The “probably” is because the GBP/EUR rate is volatile). The price will be confirmed in time for the final balance on 1 December and we will refund any unused monies as usual
They will fly early on Friday from London Gatwick with onward coach transfer to PSV arriving c.1330, and return to Gatwick c. 1520 on the Sunday. If you choose to make your own travel arrangements this will deduct the group travel cost from your holiday cost.
It would be great to see you there! An application form is attached if you are interested.
Please contact ifJan Williams if you have any queries.

Outreach MK Event
Judy Ekins attended this Milton Keynes event and brought with her various adaptive skiing equipment, including a sit-ski, to showcase ASMK. The ASMK DVD was also shown several times. There was the opportunity to engage with various other local voluntary organisation and the potential to enlist more local volunteer help - fingers crossed for that!
A big thank you to Judy for representing ASMK
Snowsport GB goes intoadministration From Time Online 5th February 2010
British skiing is going downhill fast in more ways than one after it was confirmed today that the governing body has gone into administration.
It was not a great surprise. The British Ski and Snowboard Federation (BSSF) has been in the throes of a crisis for more than a year and last month admitted it needed to find a £200,000 funding shortfall.
Officials blamed that on two expected payments failing to materialise and the RBS withdrawing a £30,000 overdraft facility. However, 14 British skiers and snowboarders will go to Winter Olympics which start in Vancouver next week. The British Olympic Association (BOA) has allowed its dormant subsidiary company, Team GB Ltd, to act as the national governing body for ski and snowboarding. This meets International Ski Federation (FIS) criteria, which demand Olympic athletes be part of a national federation.
It is, however, an almighty mess with the athletes facing uncertain futures. Many coaches will lose their jobs and the skiers and snowboarders do not know whether they will have a funded programme next season. The decision also means that Chemmy Alcott, Britain's best skier, is unlikely to recoup the £20,000 she says the BSSF owe her in costs. "They owe me £20,000 and if they go bust, then I’ll lose it all," she said. "I had to pay for my summer training but they said they would repay me."
Alcott has admitted her programme can cost £300,000 a year although most of that comes from private sponsors and funding. Ed Drake, Britain's top male skier, said his season costs around £50,000, but he got only £6,000 from the BSSF, in addition to having to pay them £3,500 for the honour of being on the British team.
A BOA spokesman said: "Team GB Ltd will trade under the name of BSS (British Ski and Snowboarding) and will ensure that FIS registration and FIS race entries continue for all accredited athletes without undue disruption."
However, the BOA said the BSS was merely bridging the gap and that after the Games there would be a full consultation process to determine the way forward. That seemed to suggest the BOA was unaware that the British Snowboard Association (BSA) had already said it would be taking over control of the sport after the Olympics. The BSA merged its operations with SnowsportGB, the trading name of the BSSF, in 2005, and today blamed skiing for causing the downfall of the body. "It seems the financial problems within alpine skiing may have contributed," the BSA said in a statement.

"Just read Daniel's experience in the Newsletter (and am sure you have many more like it) - makes me proud to know you guys. Be pleased to help in anyway, anytime, will overcome that fear of heights and learn to ski so that I can help properly.

Hi Bob/Bridget
Hope you are well. My company are aware that Paul and I are coming along as volunteers/skiers to Milton Keynes each month and I have 'badgered' them into giving a charitable donation.
The sum would be around £250. Would you be able to let me know how to go about submitting this donation?
Paul (with Judy shouting behind him to go slower..) took to the slope magnificently last month – we had a great time and as usual everyone was very supportive.
Best Wishes
Maria

Committee Meeting
A few people have suggested a committee meeting and therefore I propose we hold the next one on Sunday May 10th at 2.30pm in the café area of the Snozone. This should give us enough time before setting up for the ASMK session

The best thing ever!
Email received following the December 2008 session:
Bob
After yesterday there are two things I have decided. 1, Sit skis are the second best invention ever and 2, The ASMK organisation is the first.
Honestly I had such a good time and to be back on the snow was fantastic. I also want to say thanks to "Roddy" Llewellyn who bombed me down the slopes each time...crazy...but in a good way.
