ETTA AFFILIATION

The League Secretary reminds players that they are expected to have applied for or renewed their affiliation to the ETTA BEFORE playing in the League for the first time this season. Players who have failed to do so will not have the civil liability insurance supplied through our sport and in the event of an incident during a match involving damage to property or a third party may find themselves liable and without insurance protection.

The Laws of Table Tennis - It is announced that there are no changes in the Laws for this coming season.

The Lists of ITTF approved TT balls and racquet coverings have been issued for the new season. They can be viewed via the ETTA website or copies can be obtained from the League Secretary.

The Gold Challenge Programme is aimed at Grassroots Sport. It is linked to the 2012 Olympics and is supported by Sport England. Individuals or groups can choose a sport and complete  a series of challenges to earn points. Points lead to a certificate, prizes and money going to charity.

For table tennis the challenges are:

undertaking 3 - 5 hours coached table tennis - 10 pts

undertaking 6 hours or more coached table tennis - 20 pts

competing in affiliated competitions - 20 pts

Clubs, especially those with coaching facilities should be aware of this and be ready to deal with enquiries from interested members of the general public.

Instant Ping Pong - This is an initiative to be launched in September by the ETTA to encourage people in to playing TT. It is basically a kit bag of ideas and equipment aimed at adults and for use in all kinds of environment, eg home, workplace, outdoors, on holiday, sports clubs and centred very much around social table tennis. It encourages competitive play in the hope that some players may be lead in to regular play.
