Current Projects
1. Aylesbury Vale Cycling Liaison Group (AVCLG)
Meetings used to be held three times per year and at one time involved officers and councillors from Bucks CC and AVDC, unfortunately at a time when little funding was available. With so much housing, employment and retail development in the pipeline, our top priority is in ensuring that these developments are done in a way that improves the route network for cyclists and pedestrians. Too many opportunities have been lost: Broadfields, Cambridge Close, Hampden Hall, Hilda Wharf to name but a few.
We are currently liaising with Bucks CC setting outthe need for an AVCLG meeting to be convened on the topic of planning for cycling and walking in new developments. We are also compiling a list of groups who should be invited.
2. Cycle Parking
The 1st stage has been completed with the introduction of 11 sets of stands at 8 locations at shops around the town. The next stage of additional locations is being progressed with Cycle Aylesbury.
3. Website & publicity
We are developing knowledge of our presence to greater numbers of people by contacting the local press, radio station & progressing with additional information on our website which we hope will be of interest to local cyclists.
In addition we are also looking into the production of leaflets, flyers & stickers which could briefly incorporate our aims and/or advertise our website.
4. Events & rides
We have a series of evening rides that we are running this spring & summer starting at 7 p.m. Further details appear on our 'Events' page.
5. Hazard Spotting
Cycle Aylesbury requested that we classify any hazards along the Gemstone paths in order that repairs & improvements may be made. A format presentation is under review & this project will take considerable time & resources.
6. Other work
These include our general aim of getting more people to cycle, campaign for on road cycling, safe cycle routes, report road defects, lobby for greater cycle parking, promote cycle training, perform safety studies & support the Bike It project.
