Welcome to the Buckinghamshire Compact website. From here you can find out about current Compact developments, read about the background to the Compact and download copies of the documents.
What is it?
The Bucks Compact provides a framework for the relationship between the public sector and the voluntary and community sector (VCS). It sets out a number of principles and good practice guidelines which both sectors have agreed to adopt, with particular commitments around funding and procurement, volunteering and consultation.
Consultation on Adopting the New National Compact
The original Buckinghamshire Compact was published in 2004, with codes on Funding & Procurement and Volunteering following in 2006.
Since this time the landscape for the VCS has changed significantly. To make sure that the Buckinghamshire Compact keeps pace with changes at the local and national level the Buckinghamshire Compact Steering Group are recommending adopting an amended version of the new national Compact (published in December 2010) in place of the existing Buckinghamshire documents.
You can read more about this on the New Compact 2011 page.
Importance
The aim of the Compact is to improve the working relationship between the public and voluntary and community sectors for mutual advantage and community gain. Implementing Compact best practice is integral to building and sustaining a strong and vibrant VCS. It ensures that public sector organisations are providing the best possible support to VCS organisations to deliver their own services and activities. It also helps VCS organisations make a meaningful contribution to how the public sector designs and delivers its own services, on behalf of service users.
