Beer Festival
Drayton St Leonard Beer Festival
2008 sees the 10th anniversary of Drayton St Leonard Beer Festival, when an anticipated 100 or so real ale enthusiasts will make the annual pilgrimage to DSL’s Village Hall. The Festival is usually held on the last Friday in October, and gives villagers a chance to get together while sampling a variety of the best local draught ales, at an affordable price. The festival formula is simple: a pre-bought ticket entitles the purchaser to a commemorative glass, two free pints and a home-cooked supper. There is usually a fund-raising raffle- always enthusiastically supported, and the Village Hall is decorated in appropriate bacchanalian style.
Wine has recently been added to the “menu”, thus catering for a wider range of tastes, and recent years have seen the introduction of real farm ciders- formerly from Devon but more recently from Little Wittenham and Upton, near Blewbury. The picture below was taken at the 2007 Beerfest, and it gives a good general impression of the flavour of the event- one the most popular in Drayton’s social calendar:
