Neighbourhood Policing 'Have Your Say' meeting

MEET PCSO CHRIS RADCLIFF / PROTECT YOUR POSSESSIONS / VOICE YOUR CONCERNS.

One of the clearest results from the village questionnaire last year was that villagers would like to meet our Neighbourhood Policing Team. So, on Sat 17th March from 11am to 12noon the Parish Council has arranged for PCSO Chris Ratcliff to hold a 'Have Your Say' meeting in the Village Hall. The Chalgrove Neighbourhood Policing unit is no stranger to the village, PC Paul Gregory came to the Parish Council Meeting in August to promote 'Have Your Say' meetings, and PCSO Chris Ratcliff helps coordinate crime responses, for instance when there was a spate of break ins and thefts last July. Building on these contacts, the 'Have Your Say' meeting will be an opportunity to discuss topics of your choice. He might also bring along a marking system to securely identify items such as bicycles and power tools you'd like to bring along. You can find out more about Neighbourhood Policing and 'Have Your Say' meetings at http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/yournh/yournh-tvp-pol-area-n136

Dial 999 to report a crime in progress or about to be committed or if there is a risk of injury or worse. Otherwise to report an incident call 101 or 08458 505 505, the police non-urgent numbers.

The Drayton St Leonard Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) operates under the Parish Council. We are officially registered with the South Oxfordshire Office of Neighbourhood Watch at Abingdon Police Station. We cover the whole Parish, from the 4 Winds area to Drayton View and over the river to Holcombe Granges.

In the village, NHW activity is mainly keeping eyes and ears open and taking common sense precautions. I act as the DSL NHW Coordinator and each area in the village has a ‘NHW Street Coordinator’. There are also a few ‘Deputy Street Coordinators’.  All members are listed on the DSL NHW Street Plan which lists contact details especially phone numbers, so members can quickly call round for help, send notifications or to give advice. Emails are also used for local messages. To join the Drayton St Leonard Neighbourhood Watch email Neighbourhood.Watch@DraytonStLeonard.co.uk .

The NHW office in Abingdon sends ‘Ringmaster’ bulletins by email at least monthly, NHW members should register to receive these and other relevant messages from Thames Valley Police at https://www.tvpcommunitymessaging.org .

Some regret the fact that there are no nightly NHW patrols around the village, with malefactors chastised by Members brandishing converted farm implements, but all direct involvement is left solely to the Police. The public can contact the Police on 101 or 08458 505505, or for crime in progress or if life is at risk or other emergency call 999.

To join the Neighbourhood Watch, just send an email to Neighbourhood.Watch@DraytonStLeonard.co.uk with your name, address and phone number, or contact your street coordinator, and whether you would like to help. The DSL NHW Coordinators are:

High Street: David Hinde (Deputy Steve Cox)

Dorchester Road & outlying houses: Steve Cox (Deputy David Hinde)

The Osiers: John Northover

Church Lane: Charles Dickerson

Water Lane: David Watkin (Deputy Dick Atkinson)

Ford Lane: Amy Herlihy

Stadhampton Road and Drayton View: Amanda Wellbelove.

DSL NHW Coordinator: Steve Cox.
