History of the Village Hall
Hughenden Village Hall was first mooted in 1938 and a fund to build one was set up, but it was not until 7th August 1945 that the enthusiasm really took hold, mainly because there was a wooden hall at Bledlow ridge that was to be pulled down and which could do the job. The cost would be around £400 and there was £237 in the Fund, but the money was raised via a Christmas Draw and weekly Whist Drives in villagers' homes, plus donations and loans.
The wooden hall measured 60'x20'.
The land was bought in 1946 for £900, after various other sites were considered and rejected and the wooden building was erected there in august 1946. Immediately there were many activities taking place in the hall, much like today.
