Enforcement

The local authorities acting as the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire are taking direct independent enforcement action. The Waste Partnership usually prosecutes cases involving fly-tipping of waste, and failures in duty of care which contribute to fly-tipping.

Illegal Dumpers named and shamed

The partnership is publishing its ‘Name and Shame’ list that highlights the names and details of companies and individuals who have recently been convicted for fly tipping or duty of care offences. Since 2004, over 150 convictions have been made.

If a person is convicted of illegal dumping, their name will appear on the list which will be updated regularly. There’s no getting away with it. If they don’t want to see their name in the local paper they need to ensure that they dispose of their waste correctly by using one of the County’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres or by ensuring that they comply with duty of care when transferring their waste to someone else.

Even if someone is taking their household waste (incl DIY waste) away, they MUST check with the Environment Agency that they are legally authorised to take it. If a persons waste is dumped illegally and they have not checked the carrier’s credentials, they and the carrier could be fined up to £5,000.
