Aces Wheelchair Basketball Club

Aces LogoAces Wheelchair Basketball Club is a Buckinghamshire based wheelchair basketball club that provides opportunity for people with and without disabilities to play wheelchair basketball.  The club, established in 1984, has grown into the largest wheelchair basketball club in the country and is one of the most successful clubs in both domestic and international competitions. Aces is a registered charity.

Aces currently runs 4 senior teams and 2 junior teams who all compete in the National League, and one team that plays in the European Club competition.

Aces has a Paralympics heritage, regularly producing athletes that compete at Paralympics.  Both current and former members of the club have won medals at the highest level.  Currently Aces has 5 players who competed in Beijing, together with three players who are all members of the GB Development Squad.

An important aspect of the sport is the inclusion and social interaction for newly disabled and junior players.  The development of a junior section was therefore identified as a missing and vital element for the future success of the club.  Aces therefore founded their junior section two years ago, initially with 5 members but it has rapidly grown to over 20 regular attendees.   As successful as this development has been, the resulting increase in numbers has strained the club’s resources.

We are delighted to have been selected by the Penn Seven and Super Fun Run as their chosen charity for 2010.  The money raised by the event will be used to buy extra sports wheelchairs, which we are desperately short of now that the club has expanded its junior section.
