The Princes Risborough Music Society - PRMS - was founded in 1912 and will soon be celebrating its centennial. It performs two main classical concerts per year, one in the spring and one in the autumn. These are normally held in All Saints Church High Wycombe, but, when accompaniment is by an ensemble, as opposed to a full orchestra, concerts are sometimes held in St Mary's Church Princes Risborough and St Lawrence's Church West Wycombe. Once every 18 months, we perform jointly with Marlow Choral Society in the Wycombe Swan Theatre. Each summer, the Society performs concert versions of popular operettas or light choral pieces over three nights in late June/early July, presently in Longwick Village Hall. A Christmas Concert is normally held in Princes Risborough during the week leading up to Christmas.
Presently, the Society has over 75 members and works under the musical direction of Chris Grant. It is a registered charity (number 272795) and is affiliated to Making Music (The National Federation of Music Societies). Its president is Adrian Thompson. Practices are held at Princes Risborough School on Tuesday evenings (7:30-9:30 pm) and there may be an additional practice in a concert week over and above the dress rehearsal on the day of a concert. New members are always welcome. There are no auditions and it is not necessary to read music. Presently, the annual subscription is £50.
The Society is supported by patrons, who, unless honorary, pay an annual subscription to cover the cost of concert tickets. They always have reserved seats.
