The Present Day
The event took place over 2 days on the 26/27 September. It was opened by Paddy Hopkirk in his Monte Carlo Rally 1964 winning Mini Cooper S. We were blessed with a perfect warm autumn weekend, and the peace of the Chiltern countryside vibrated to the noise from 250 engines as the enthusiasts in their cars and cycles, made runs up the hill bringing back memories of those distant days. The theme of the event was ‘Ancient and Modern’ with cars ranging from De Dion Bouton 1905, Aston Martin A3 prototype 1921 recently restored and Bugatti Brescia 1923 to the modern Aston and Italian Le Mans racing team cars including a Bugatti Veyron. You can see some of the action on www.kophillclimb.org.uk and the event was covered by the BBC and ITV regional news.
Over 5000 spectators attended the 2 day event and it has certainly put Princes Risborough back on the map raising a surplus of £30,000 for local charities and a funding base for Kop Hill 2010 Centenary Year. Hopefully it will become a fixture on the motorsport calendar.
